REVIEW: 'Giga' #3 by Alex Paknadel, John Lé, and Rosh

Evan's oldest friend returns to find the prosthetics she once built transformed into her doppelganger. Mason and the Order of The Red Relay investigate an elephant graveyard of towering Giga remains. GIGA #3 Writer: Alex Paknadel Artist: John Lé, Rosh Publisher: Vault Comics Release Date: March 31, 2021 Cover Price: $3.99 Score: ★★★★☆ (4/5) Having just jumped into Giga with this issue, it really is a fascinating read. Alex Paknadel has put together a sophisticated drama that's intellectually challenging and full of ideas involving class, authoritarianism, worship, terrorism, and loss. It's all under the guise of giant robots but it really has more to do with the complexity of humanity.  We come across "world-building" constantly in comics and it's a necessity obviously but while some stories can describe the world in its superficiality, Paknadel is giving us all the intricacies, the minutia, the politics, the societal divisions, everything. He's laying...

'Tankers' #1 Preview: Bad Idea To Reward The First TANKERS #1 Customer At Every Store -- Teases Upcoming Secret Pin Redemption

How do you top top-ness? How do you re-conquer conquering? How do you follow up the most hotly anticipated debut in all of comics* history? You call Robert Venditti. With a flick of his locks and a twinkle in his smile, the Silver Fox answers the only way he knows how, "You bet Jur-ass-i-can." Thus, with one embryonic dinosaur pun, was born the insane baby of time travel, mech armor, tough-guy roughnecks, deep-seated grudges against prehistoric reptiles, ethically debased oil executives, and, the horrors of evolution run amok! Ladies and gentlemen, from the deeply unsettling and sugar-dependent imaginations of New York Times best-selling writer Robert Venditti ( Justice League ), blockbuster artist Juan Jose Ryp ( Wolverine ), and colorist supreme, Andrew Dalhouse ( Batman ) comes TANKERS! The only comic brave enough to admit...

What if there was a magical prophecy that you were destined to save the world, and you fulfilled it so young you don’t know what to do with the rest of your life?    That’s the problem facing Logan McBride in DESTINY, NY, the ongoing comic book series launching in March 2021. Together, writer Pat Shand (Black Mask’s SNAP FLASH HUSTLE), artist Manuel Preitano (DC Comics’ THE ORACLE CODE), and cover artists Elisa Romboli (upcoming ALICE IN LEATHERLAND), Terry Moore (STRANGERS IN PARADISE), and Rosi Kämpe (SPIDER-GWEN) have created a grounded story about the magic of young adulthood, star-crossed modern romance, delayed coming of age, and finding your place in a world too busy to notice you. “Destiny, NY is a story about what happens next. Fantasy stories always end when the prophecy is complete, when the villain is defeated. I wanted to find out what happens next. How does the subject of a prophecy go on to live a normal, fulfilling life when everyone around them tells ...

REVIEW: 'Two Moons' #2 by John Arcudi, Valerio Giangiordano, and Bill Crabtree

"THE IRON NOOSE," Part Two-Facing a court-martial and execution at the hands of the Union Army, Virgil must depend on the enemy to save his life.   TWO MOONS #2 Writer: John Arcudi Artist: Valerio Giangiordano, Bill Crabtree Publisher: Image Comics Release Date: March 31, 2021 Cover Price: $3.99 Score: ★★★★☆ (4/5) After the explosive ending to 'Two Moons' #1, issue two finds Virgil aka Two Moons, in custody for shooting the sergeant. Falsely accused and facing at least a court martial an unexpected vision and unlikely alliance put him on a new path.  Virgil is really a lost soul amid this conflict between North and South. He's in service to the Union despite the constant harassment from his fellow soldiers but a worthy asset to the Confederacy because of the perceived murder of the Union sergeant. Yet, he's not a white man and while he comes from Pawnee heritage he wasn't raised that way. Raised by white schoolteachers, Virgil is a man caught between c...

STRAY DOGS #2 Writer: Tony Fleecs Artist: Trish Forstner, Brad Simpson Publisher: Image Comics Release Date: March 24, 2021 Cover Price: $3.99 Score: ★★★★☆ (4/5) One of the best suspense stories in comics is as adorable as 'Lady and the Tramp' and as tense as 'Rear Window.'
