The Last Wardens #3 Writer: Elliot Sperl, Amit Tishler Artist: Rui Silveira, Francesco Segala Letters: Frank Cvetkovic Publisher: Mad Cave Studios Release Date: September 25, 2024 Cover Price: $4.99 The Drifter turns Bleakwood into a gruesome hellscape, and the Wardens blame Danielle Pryer for their failure to stop it. But even after suffering major losses, Danielle refuses to let go and decides to confront her blighted sibling all on her own. Score: ★★★★☆ 4/5 QUICK REVIEW: One of this year's most exciting monster comics is 'The Last Wardens.' A deadly roving blob leaves a trail of death and chaos in its wake while a distraught sister frantically tries to save her brother as a band of bickering heroes(?) attempt to fight the monster. Elliot Sperl, Amit Tishler, Rui Silveira, and Francesco Segala have put together such an irresistible blend of horror and action that despite little exposition and backstory, 'Wardens' is a rollicking good time. Without th...

BABS #1 (W) Garth Ennis  (A) Jacen Burrows, Andy Troy Letters: Rob Steen Publisher: Ahoy Comics Release Date: September 18, 2024 Cover Price: $3.99 Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows' sword-and-satire epic thickens as the barbarian thief Babs is forced into an awkward confrontation with the skeletal Lord of the Undead and his equally un-deceased queen! Meanwhile, a misogynist goblin schemes to get revenge on Babs. Score:  ★★★★ 4/5 QUICK REVIEW: 'Babs' is a charming and funny sword-and-sorcery satire that plays on the societal foibles of today while inhabiting familiar fantasy tropes. The goblin bros still reeling from the beating they took from Babs now must deal with the authoritative Ivory Knights of Unblemished Virtue who've taken over the town and promised to make the kingdom great again as they look to divide the townsfolk. Meanwhile, Babs comes across the Lord of the Undead his queen, and a squad of the walking dead. Things get really awkward real fast an...

Score: ★★★★☆ (4/5) 'The Last Wardens' is one of those rare books that is thoroughly entertaining and exciting but I couldn't tell you how or why anything is happening. That's the basic premise and it's lovingly told by Rick Remender and Brian Posehn whose own memories of that time help bring their personal touch to the limited series. Funny and endearing, this coming of age tale of two outsiders brought together by their love of skate boarding is universal but will be of special interest to those who also recognize the names Tony Hawk, Christian Hosoi, and Stacy Peralta.  The colorful cartoony style of Brett Parson and Moreno Dinisio capture perfectly the casual fun vibe of the era in clothes and hairstyles. In the back notes, Remender explains that attention to detail they tried to br...
