QUICK REVIEW: After the high-octane dystopian thriller took a surprising and literal rest stop in issue #2, the third issue hit the road again with a vengeance. Blacktop Bill is in hot pursuit of Val and her crew as she barrels down the road in her custom big rig. The heart-pounding chase reaches cinematic levels with Tony Daniel and Tomeu Morey ringing every ounce of suspense and danger out of it. Val throws everything at Bill and his gang in spectacular fashion and few artists could capture the explosive battle like these can.

Scott Snyder's opening features some backstory of Val's and Emory's parents and how the virus transforms humans into monsters. It's a well-crafted scene that simmers with suspense in ways we've seen in horror movies but it still works. It'll give you goosebumps.

Issue three ramps up all the emotions this time. It seems that taking issue two off really prepared the team to bring it in this issue. 'Nocterra' #3 is electrifying and manages to handle the bombastic with the emotional in a return to form for the series.
