Score:
★★★★★ (5/5)

'Scout's Honor' has been one exciting action-packed series. It could serve as a guidebook to aspiring comic book creators on how to produce a thrilling and entertaining comic book. Pepose writes a lean and mean script that wastes no time in demonstrating the characters' motivations and turning those feelings into action. The stakes get higher and higher at the end of each issue leaving readers clamoring for more. Luca Casalanguida and Matt Milla draw, design, and color a vibrant dangerous landscape that belongs on a big screen it's so cinematic.

Seeing Kit's arc over five issues is not only thrilling but empowering. By the end, she's free to be herself, free of the shackles that the Scout doctrine placed on women, it's a revolutionary act that drives the narrative simply because the truth matters. 'The Big Lie' here that the Scoutmaster propagated divided people, instilled fear in them, and bound them to keep them under control. It could be an allegory for our times except without giant spiders. The big moments feel epic and the small moments feel genuine.

If there's a nitpick, one could say it all wraps up very neatly and as expected. I say it ends in the very best way and it's satisfying. Especially, in times like this we could use some good over evil, some happy endings, some redemption for the underdog. I can't be cynical all the time.

Overall, 'Scout's Honor' delivers in every way. As a trade paperback it should also be a best-seller. You could confidently recommend this to comic book readers and non-readers alike. It's not every day you read a rock-solid comic book story that's as flawless and rewarding as 'Scout's Honor' but here we are.
