Red Sonja Returns With Worldwide Superstar Mirka Andolfo

Superstar Mirka Andolfo Brings Her Signature Style to Red Sonja! New Flagship Series Launching This September

Few comic book creators have such diverse skills and worldwide passionate followings as writer/artist Mirka Andolfo, and she's bringing that energy to the She-Devil With a Sword for a new series debuting this fall!

"Red Sonja is an extraordinary, multifaceted character, and I loved her from the first moment," said Mirka Andolfo. "When I was asked to try to make my own version of her, I immediately accepted."

In Mirka Andolfo's Red Sonja #1, she kicks off a new arc "Mother," touching on themes that fans of Mirka's other works starring strong female characters will immediately recognize and latch onto. The story begins with a village burning to the ground, set aflame by the dreaded Three-Eyed Shezem. Sonja arrives to find only a single survivor, a young child with mysterious white tattoos. As they set off on an arduous journey through frigid snow plains and thick forests, the new companions will face all manner of threats. In a quest to seek justice, as well as answers to the many mysteries in the series. Can Sonja save this child's life and figure out what happened?

Mirka Andolfo is one of the leading names in today's prestigious Italian comics scene and among its most global, with many of her signature works published overseas and beloved projects with other companies. Hit independent titles like Mercy, Unnatural, Sweet Paprika, and Un/Sacred attract countless fans with her memorable character design and storytelling. In addition, she's worked on mainstream titles like Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Chaos!, and more.

For the new Red Sonja title, Andolfo is joined by co-writer Luca Blengino, colorist Chiara Di Francia, letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and editor Nate Cosby. Handling the art is Giuseppe Cafaro (Sacred Six), who has known Mirka since their time studying art together in Naples.

Of course, no series by Mirka is complete without her own wonderful art, and she leads a pack of impressive cover artists to spoil fans and collectors. She's joined by Jay Anacleto, portraying the genesis of the story on his cover. Joseph Michael Linsner, Erica D'Urso, Brett Booth, a cosplay cover featuring Tabitha Lyons, and a blank sketch cover round out the lot.

MIRKA ANDOLFO'S RED SONJA #1 is solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ July 2021 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in September 2021. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the issue with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!
