Score:
★★★★☆ (4/5)

Poor Strummer. The case of the missing silver bullets is going nowhere and after brawling with vampires and seeking help from a supernatural sage, she may be ready to throw in the towel. Issue three of 'Black's Myth' provides some interesting characters but the mystery only gets murkier.

Eric Palicki gives our favorite werewolf detective some dead ends (pun intended) to really challenge her resolve. Even the vampires make some good points that help remove them as suspects in Rainsford Black's missing bullets case. Everything in the issue makes the argument for the futility in discovering what happened to these bullets and questioning the value and authenticity to them at all. It could be a clever misdirect by Palicki because questions still linger and a killer still is on the loose.

Wendell Cavalcanti choreographs one mean bar brawl. Strummer shows off her werewolf-based strength and fighting prowess in a scene that escalates in an all-out brawl with vampires. Even though Ben isn't much help and the panels do sometimes get a little muddy with the darker inks and lack detail, Cavalcanti's designs and pacing are exceptional. The better-detailed panels come later in the issue when Strummer and Ben visit an unusual mystic.

'Black's Myth' #3 is an interesting step back for our heroes, a giant L in the face of an investigation that has led to a brick wall. Palicki is testing Strummer's resolve as things get murkier. This is part of the case that's begging for a breakthrough so we anticipate the next issue to be a gamechanger. It's still an entertaining mystery series with some creative and unique supernatural touches.
