'Octobriana With Love' 50th Anniversary Anthology Graphic Novel Arrives Wednesday

Dead Good Comics today confirmed the new release date for the direct market edition of its 50th Anniversary anthology graphic novel OCTOBRIANA WITH LOVE. The 64-page, square-bound format book will be widely available through comic stores via Diamond Distribution on December 22nd, 2021 for $9.99 USD.

The anthology celebrates the enigmatic freedom fighting Russian superhero Octobriana, with original strips from Stephanie Phillips (Harley Quinn), Marc Laming (Star Wars: Boba Fett), Simon Fraser (Judge Dredd), Andy Belanger (Swamp Thing), Andrea Towers (Geek Girls Don’t Cry), N. Steven Harris (X-Force), Stephen Byrne (Joy Operations), Stu Taylor (2000AD) and more. The main cover illustration is by Marguerite Sauvage, with limited-run variants from Joyce Chin and Michael Cho.

Stu Taylor, Editor and Curator, OCTOBRIANA WITH LOVE, said:

“Octobriana With Love has been over five years in the making and, following the successful Kickstarter earlier this year, it’s great to finally be able to confirm the direct comic store release date for this all-star showcase of what makes this character so iconic. Octobriana is back. With love. Come with her if you want a revolution.”

Octobriana debuted in the controversial book Octobriana and the Russian Underground, written by Petr Sadecky in 1971, who claimed that the titular Amazon was created by an underground anti-Soviet group. Sadecky’s elaborate tale was soon debunked and the truth revealed that he had stolen and doctored the artwork of two prominent Czech artists to create the Octobriana myth.

Even though the bizarre circumstances of her publishing origins are mired in deception and controversy, Octobriana achieved underground cult status and is still appearing in comic books, graffiti, art installations, etc, 50 years on from her creation. And that’s not including the fact that David Bowie was going to make a movie about her, or that 80s rocker Billy Idol proudly has a tattoo of the Russian Devil-Woman.
