CROWDFUNDING: Pulpy Action-Adventure 'The Baboon: Temple of Eternal Life' by Jamie Jones

Cartoonist Jamie Jones embarks on his most ambitious crowdfunding goal on October 18th with THE BABOON: Temple of Eternal Life the second book in his ongoing pulp, an action-adventure comic for the whole family.

The secrets of life everlasting lie hid deep within the jungles of South America. Magic guarded by traditions of long-forgotten cultures. Traditions that hold no meaning to modern man. Old friends, Ancient warriors, and magics far beyond the mortal coil collide. To save the world THE BABOON must battle the past to ensure his family’s future.

Jamie Jones: I have been working on the Baboon for the past 3 years. Putting out various different format comics, from large hardcover books to single page strips. I can’t stop thinking about him and the Baboon Crew. I keep coming up with stories, faster than I can make the comics! These characters, this world ever expanding in my head and I can’t stop telling these stories. Even when I think, OH this is something, not Baboon related the ideas somehow sneak their way back into the Baboon Universe.

This new adventure is a full-color, 94-page, beautiful hardcover edition. That will match with other Baboon books from the past and future of the series. I like to have the book completely finished by the time I run a crowdfunding campaign, so no need to fear it not coming out. Once the campaign is finished and funds have been collected I’ll be sending off the files to my printer, Printlore.

Having run/been a part of 6 successful Kickstarters why the shift to Crowdfundr?

There are tons of reasons for the shift, but the one that I wasn’t prepared for was their amazing customer relations. If I have a question their team is right there with a response. Also, with their CreatorHub they have made a place where creators can connect and talk about projects. It’s a platform designed around social media culture. Not only that, but the pages that you can make have customization features that allow for small rhetoric and buyer physiology changes allowing you to make the campaign you need. For example, I have a finished book. I don’t need customers feeling like they are getting a reward for helping me reach a goal, I need them to feel like they are pre-ordering a product.

Light, fun, and fast, The Baboon sits firmly in the wish fulfillment vein that runs through the stories of Batman and Robin, Johnny Quest, and Terry and the Pirates. Stories made for all ages. And in this lighter approach tackles some heavier themes, such as death, adoption, and family life, without having to get too realistic. The Baboon and his team are a family and they act and deal with problems accordingly. They may butt heads, but at the end of the day, they love each other.
