REVIEW: 'The Ninjettes' #3 by Fred Van Lente, Joseph Cooper, and Dearbhla Kelly

THE NINJETTES #3

Writer: Fred Van Lente
Artist: Joseph Cooper, Dearbhla Kelly
Letters: Jeff Eckleberry
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: November 16, 2022
Cover Price: $3.99

It's Alpha Ninjettes Vs. Omega Ninjettes! Fun fact: Three things can happen to an Omega Ninjette...they can get banished, get killed, or (very rarely) kill an Alpha and take their place. This...is a rare story.

Score:

★★★★☆ (4/5)

QUICK REVIEW: Things are as intense as ever as Steph tries to survive while making allies and Blanca, the white-haired girl, is far from dead. Fred Van Lente keeps the tension high with a severely wounded Blanca providing the narration and serving as a wild card. Ceejay and her crew await for Steph to be drawn out but Steph has other plans. It's a bit of a cat-and-mouse game in this issue but we do get more character work in an attempt to differentiate the girls caught in this test of survival. Like any competition, competitors try and form alliances so they join forces and take down the strongest among them.

There's a lot of that happening here with bloody consequences. It's what fans of the 'Battle Royale' and 'Hunger Games' genres expect and Van Lente delivers the gamesmanship and violence necessary to keep readers glued to every panel. Joseph Cooper and Dearbhla Kelly provide fantastic fight choreography and colorful action that accentuates each fight with maximum impact. 'The Ninjettes' continues to be a fun and violent exercise in the survival of the fittest giving fans exactly what they want. This is like the old Cannon films of the 80s where consumers just indulged in the B-movie action that was straightforward, exciting, and unapologetically crowd-pleasing. 'The Ninjettes' delivers the goods.

Score: ★★★★1/2 (4.5/5) There are certain comic book creators whose books I'll pick up without hesitation. One of those creators is Jeff Lemire. He instills confidence knowing that his stories will be thoughtful and engaging. You add a talented artist like Dustin Nguyen on another collaborative effort and well, 'Little Monsters,' is a must-buy.
