Weird Al Reads Your Horoscope in New Animated Video for Z2’s 'The Illustrated Al: The Songs of “Weird Al” Yankovic'

Illustrated Al Interior Artist Aaron Augenblick and Director Josh Pilch bring “Your Horoscope for Today” to Life

Celebrating the release of the Z2 graphic anthology The Illustrated Al: The Songs of “Weird Al” Yankovic, “Weird Al” Yankovic has united with artist Aaron Augenblick and Augenblick Studio to channel their comic collaboration, “Your Horoscope for Today,” as a new animated video. Josh Pilch, who worked on The Roku Channel’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, directs. Incorporating the song of the same name from “Weird Al” Yankovic’s iconic 1999 album, Running With Scissors, “Your Horoscope for Today” escorts viewers through their astrological fates, ranging from whack-a-mole marathons to tuna-flavored pudding and photo-copier mishaps. Watch the full video below.

“It was an absolute dream come true to first draw a comic and then turn it into an actual Weird Al music video,” artist and designer Aaron Augenblick explains. “Al has been a major influence for me. For the style of both the comic and animation, I wanted to pay tribute to my favorite period of Weird Al—the ‘80s VHS years. I remember seeing Al TV broadcast on MTV and it felt like a transmission from another planet. Stylistically, we combined vaporwave, astrology, and, of course, ska. What a thrill!”

Written by “Weird Al” Yankovic, The Illustrated Al is a career-spanning visual feast that unites a host of the top living cartoonists to express Al's “Yankovisions." This great AL-merican Songbook features 20-plus classic songs interpreted by such artists as Drew Friedman (MAD Magazine), Mike & Laura Allred (Madman), Bill Plympton (Your Face, Guard Dog), Aaron Augenblick (Superjail!, Ugly Americans), Peter Bagge (Hate), Sam Viviano (MAD Magazine), Steve Chanks (Revolver, Guitar World), Felipe Sobreiro (Luther Strode, Death’s Head), Gideon Kendall (MegaGhost), Michael Kupperman (Up All Night, The New Yorker), Wes Hargis (My New Teacher and Me!, When I Grow Up), Ruben Bolling (Tom the Dancing Bug and Super-Fun-Pak Comix), Fred Harper (The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal), Ryan Dunlavey (Action Philosophers), Rob Sikoryak (The Unquotable Trump), Ruben Bolling (Tom the Dancing Bug), Jeff McClelland (The Tick), Hilary Barta (Plastic Man), and many more! The book also features a custom art print set from Jesse Philips (Transformers, Star Trek), a collector’s card set by Danny Hellman (Screw, Legal Action Comics), and a foreword from legendary comic Emo Philips. The Illustrated Al is available in stores and online now.

“Aaron Augenblick and I came up together making underground comics at SVA when we were college roommates,” shares Z2 President, Josh Bernstein. “Getting the chance to collaborate with one of my best friends and “Weird Al” Yankovic on both a comic anthology and animated video is a dream come true, and a full-circle moment for us!”
