Score:

★★★★☆ (4/5)

By now, if you're a comic book fan, you should be a fan of prolific writer Jeff Lemire. The writer of Sweet Tooth, Essex County, Gideon Falls, and countless other stories earns a bit of leeway in telling a story at his own pace as readers enter his world between the pages of a book like Phantom Road. Eerie, trippy, and mysterious, Lemire takes readers into his own private Twilight Zone where answers are few and far between as Dom the trucker, and Birdie the crash victim he's accompanied by, wander a desolate alternate dimension where alien-like creatures stalk the streets. Questions remain and that could be a little frustrating as readers are in the dark as much as the characters are. However, you couldn't find a better art team than Gabriel H. Walta and Jordie Bellaire to bring this reality-defying dimension to life. Honestly, 'Phantom Road' might be more satisfying as a trade so there's a resolution to all the questions that aren't found so far. But if you trust in Lemire, and like a slow haunting journey through the unknown then this is for you. 'Phantom Road' is excellently crafted despite not giving away too many details.
