REVIEW: 'The Giant Kokju' #1 by Gerry Duggan, Scott Koblish, and Hi-Fi

THE GIANT KOKJU  #1

Writer: Gerry Duggan
Artist: Scott Koblish, Hi-Fi
Letters: Joe Sabino
Publisher: Image Comics
Release Date: April 12, 2023
Cover Price: $3.99

The Despicable Deadpool team reunites to give the world the giant monster attack story that movies and TV are too squeamish to show you.

This is a tale of woe about a monster with physical needs. It needs a restroom. It needs food, too. And, most unfortunately, it needs...sexual satisfaction. The only thing standing in its way are the men and women of science. We're proudly flying our M rating for violence, mild gore, sexual situations, nudity, dudity, turds, comedy, drama, and, um, some very tasteful swearing.

Score:
7.5/10

QUICK REVIEW: Here's what you need to know about 'The Giant Kokju.' Gerry Duggan and Scott Koblish had a great run on Deadpool so they're bringing that type of absurdist adult humor to this new title. It's rated M for a reason so get ready to shake your head in astonishment because the introduction of a massive kaiju emerging from the sea to wreak havoc in San Francisco is unlike anything you've seen before. A horny monster with an upset tummy will lay waste to the city while seeking bowel relief and sexual satisfaction. Some deaths by kaiju are worse than others. Only the scientists that forewarned this can try to save humanity now but is it too late? Genuinely exciting and shocking with a kind of 'Airplane' meets 'Godzilla' vibe that makes this monster spoof an enjoyable escapist comedy. Colorful and action-packed, Koblish and colorist Hi-Fi create a chaotic and destructive series of events that cleverly hide some big revealing facts about the Giant Kokju that will have you wondering exactly how this got pitched to Image editors.

You are not ready for 'The Giant Kokju.' If you enjoy Deadpool-type humor cranked to eleven and a love of monster movies then this is for you. A complete blast in the most absurd ways.
