Eisner-Award Nominated IZUNA Available in Brand New Deluxe Collected Edition

Journey to Feudal Japan in the Lushly Illustrative Mythical Graphic Novel from Humanoids in June 2023

Internationally renowned publisher Humanoids announced today LEGENDS OF THE PIERCED VEIL: IZUNA, a brand new deluxe edition hardcover collecting both volumes of the Eisner Award-nominated IZUNA by acclaimed creator Saverio Tenuta, co-writer Bruno Letizia, artist Carita Lupattelli, and translator Montana Kane, for fans and readers worldwide. This definitive hardcover edition follows the epic battle between spirits both demonic and heroic for the fate of their world, available in bookstores June 13, 2023.

Since the dawn of time, the Izuna wolves have been entrusted as guardians against Japan's evil spirits without piercing the veil that keeps the spirit world of the Kami and the human world separate. One day, a dark force known as the Noggo appears, spreading infection among the spiritual plane, and the Izuna, sworn to protect this realm, attempt to fight it off. But when an Izuna cub is born in the shape of a young human girl, the divide between the spirit world and the waking world becomes threatened.

Saverio Tenuta was born in Rome in 1969 and studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts. He began his career as a graphic artist and later attended the International School of Comics in Rome, where he would also teach. In addition to contributing to Heavy Metal magazine, he has also worked for DC Comics on JLA: Riddle of the Beast. In 2006, the first of his own series — which he wrote and illustrated — the Japanese medieval adventure The Legend of the Scarlet Blades was released in France by Humanoids. He expanded the world in 2014 with Izuna.

Bruno Letizia is an Italian screenwriter and comic artist who attended the International School of Comics. He illustrated True Blood: The French Quarter for IDW, iComics for Kawama, and co-wrote Izuna for Humanoids.  He created the original series H.E.R.O.I.N. for Verdenero edizioni and published the short story Fall of the Fortress in CLiNT, a UK magazine by Mark Millar. Bruno co-founded Villain Comics: an independent label for which he created the miniseries Se Sei Vivo, Spara!, Siouxie Fox and Le Città Invisibili. Since 2010, he has taught at the International School of Comics and at the Jesi ACCA Academy.

An alumna of the Rome Academy of Fine Arts, Carita Lupattelli began her career as a comic book artist with Humanoids. Her first book, Izuna: Book 1, co-created and written by Saverio Tenuta, was released by Humanoids in 2015. Izuna: Book 2 was published in the US in 2018, and Lupattelli was nominated for Eisner Awards in the category of Best Painter/Multimedia Artist in 2016 and 2019 for both volumes of Izuna.

LEGENDS OF THE PIERCED VEIL: IZUNA will be available in bookstores everywhere (bookshop.org) on June 13, 2023 and in comic shops (comicshoplocator.com) on June 14, 2023. Digital copies can be purchased from comiXology and other digital platforms.
