QUICK REVIEW: The highest compliment I can give 'Sins of the Salton Sea' by Ed Brisson and C.P. Smith is that it has the same exhilarating and heightened energy as Taylor Sheridan crime dramas. The writer of 'Sicario' and 'Hell or High Water' has made his fortune by creating complex characters in dangerous situations that drive the action of the story instead of the other way around. The magic is in the dialogue, the moral dilemmas, and the decisions the characters make that are sometimes ill-fated. 'Sea' has that and paired with Smith's well-paced and dynamic illustrations, there is a constant tension that lies under every scene. And there's a number of revelations in issue three so the reader is glued to every page. This should be a popular trade when it's collected because it's almost criminal to make readers wait an entire month for the next installment. 'Sins of the Salton Sea' is a compulsive read.
