QUICK REVIEW: 'Hack/Slash: Back to School' continues to be a delight month after month. It maintains the terrifying adventures with a dash of sexiness that's been its signature since it was created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli. Zoe Thorogood makes it her own with a macabre sense of humor, wit, and incredible art. Samantha, Cassie, and Boo are on the trail of The Mother, a slasher who makes kids commit familicide, and they have to investigate a strip club to do it. What ensues is a tense, surrealistic, and frightening discovery that endangers all of the girls. Thorogood does a wonderful job of extracting the girl's personalities and their own individual voices which helps endear them to the readers regardless of the mission. You care for them and empathize with what they've been through as they work together to take down an influential killer. We see Cassie's thoughts in her own handwriting which personalizes her character allowing a further look into her mind. There's a lot of depth and nuance here amid the frenzy and Thorogood balances it all with perfection.  'Hack/Slash: Back to School' is one of the year's best books. You never know what to expect month to month but you'll know you'll want more of it.
