QUICK REVIEW: Issue six represents the finale of the first arc of Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer's 'Transformers' and it's been a complete triumph. They've helped reestablish the series as a serious destination for one of the year's most compelling and exciting comic series. Every issue has been a roller coaster of emotion, pulse-pounding action, and shocking events. The finale was no different. Autobots versus Decepticons with humans literally caught between them has offered real stakes, heartwrenching sacrifices, and a brutal look at war with actual losses. DWJ's signature art is so visceral and dynamic that it can overwhelm his writing. Yet, in 'Transformers' he finds the heart of the characters with well-timed dialogue and actions that stay true to who they are, be it a protagonist or an antagonist. It's more than nostalgia that fuels this new series. Sure, there is a lot of care taken in representing this beloved franchise but along with reverence, there's a genuine commitment to creating a story you simply cannot put down. And that is what fans deserve and what DWJ and Mike Spicer have delivered.

  1. I'm reading this and the all of the Energon Universe titles are incredible - Johnson art is kinetic, but I love how he makes the Decepticons menacing and the Autobots humane through their interactions with humans - more people should be reading this.....
