Red 5 Comics is set to release The Last Harlemite by writer Jeff Carroll. The post-apocalypse
American manga-styled book will have 4 issues starting in August and running through December
2024.
The Last Harlemite features many action, comedy, and coming-of-age comradery between the
characters. The story allows readers to follow the adventures of 16-year-old Mansi as he
carries along the memories of his 7-year-old sister Tee Tee in his head. Mansi along with his friends and
his dog Benzo navigate the dangerous post-apocalyptic world of what used to be New York City.
The Harlem Shake Apocalypse world is full of crazy people, dangerous environments, monstrous
animals, dinosaurs, and mysterious places. When an earthquake caused by fracking on a fault line
causes the Earth’s tectonic plates to shift and the 125th Street Fault to become active. The shifting of
the tectonic plates causes a weakening in the Earth’s magnetic field. With the earth’s magnetic field
weakened, meteorites can hit the Earth’s surface bringing spores of new lifeforms.
“I wanted to write a mainstream-type story but still be black. I wanted to expand on what is considered
black science fiction. When people think of Black sci-fi they think of African warriors and paranormal
stories, not global disasters and the post-apocalypse,” said Jeff Carroll of his work.
Jeff Carroll lives in South Florida, with his wife and son. He is a writer and filmmaker. He enjoys
writing Sci/fi, Horror, and fantasy stories with lots of action and a social edge. He has written and
produced 6 films, his award-winning film Gold Digger Killer is a Hip Hop classic on Tubi.
