Kana Launches New Josei Series with 'Eden of Witches Volume 1' by Yumeji

When a young witch is forced from her home by humankind, can she awaken her powers and find a way to save her home?

Abrams ComicArts, a division of ABRAMS, recently launched Kana, an imprint devoted to publishing manga series in English. On November 12, Kana will publish debut manga author and illustrator Yumeji’s Eden of Witches Volume 1, the first in a new josei series that follows a young witch on a journey to save her home.

Eden of Witches Volume 1 is an epic Ghibli-esque fantasy manga from debut author Yumeji. The lushly illustrated coming-of-age story takes place in a world devastated by humankind and forsaken by plants and animals, where only witches have the power to communicate with nature. Blamed for the extinction of plant life, and feared by humanity for their powers, witches hide away from the rest of humanity in secret lairs bursting with greenery.

When she’s forced from her home by humankind, Pili, a young apprentice witch, sets out on the roads accompanied by the wolf Oak. However, she is not accustomed to the world outside and traveling long distances. Her fatigue quickly takes its toll, and she ends up injuring herself when she tumbles down a rocky slope! Fortunately, a boy named Bowei finds Pili and takes her home to nurse her back to health. However, the arrival of the unfamiliar young lady arouses suspicion among other villagers, who quickly discern her true nature as a witch. And all captured witches are subjected to the same fate – execution!

Eden of Witches Volume 1 will publish in bookstores on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 and in comic shops on November 13.
