England, 1349. Sir Hugh de Grey, the Pale Knight, returns from war to find a land ravaged by the Black Death, and his son dying of the plague. When he prays to God to save his son’s life, it is not God who answers—but Death himself. And Death is willing to cut a deal.

Written by the acclaimed Peter Milligan (Enigma, Shade the Changing, XStatix) and illustrated by Val Rodrigues (Deep Roots, Unnatural Order), with colors by Cristiane Peter, and letters by Dave Sharpe, The Pale Knight immerses readers in a world ravaged by plague and despair.

THE PALE KNIGHT TPB is now up for preorder from comic shops (FOC: November 24, 2025), bookstores, and the Mad Cave site. It arrives at bookstores December 23, 2025, and at your LCS December 24, 2025.

“We live in a world that has only recently emerged from a pandemic so for me The Pale Knight has a particular, terrible resonance, set as it is in a world suffering from an even deadlier plague that decimated populations in the 1340s.   This book takes my love of Bergman’s classic The Seventh Seal along with my interest in the Black Death to create a very different kind of horror story.  Val Rodriguez’ amazing art perfectly captures the apocalyptic horrors  of this twisted tale of a pale knight forced to deal with Death in order to save his son.” – Writer, Peter Mulligan

Val Rodriguez is a Brazilian comic book artist. He lives in São Paulo with his wife and two cats. He’s worked on Deep Roots and Unnatural Order for Vault Comics, and Mezo for A Wave Blue World.
