Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds Reimagine the Phantom of the Opera in New Universal Monsters Series

The Phantom Returns in a New Four-Part Limited Comic Book Series Launching February 2026

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, today announced Universal Monsters: The Phantom of the Opera, a new four-issue limited comic book series from the superstar team of Tyler Boss (You’ll Do Bad Things) and Martin Simmonds (Universal Monsters: Dracula, The Department of Truth). Plunging readers into the depths of the most infamous opera house, this shocking new reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera will hit comic book shops beginning in February 2026.

Deep beneath the grand chandelier, the music stirs once more. Boss and Simmonds bring you a horrifying new vision of the story you only think you know!

“What separates the Phantom of the Opera from the other Universal Monsters is that it’s the only ghost story of the lot,” said Tyler Boss. “With the Paris Opera House as our haunted site, and a production of Faust about to be performed, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect collaborator to breathe life into the Phantom of the Opera than Martin Simmonds.”

“I’m very excited to be returning to the world of the Universal Monsters for The Phantom of the Opera, this time alongside Tyler Boss, and there’s no better setting for our supernatural horror story than the beautiful architecture of the Paris Opera House and the streets of early 20th Century Paris,” said Martin Simmonds.

A young soprano, Christine, finds her career in chaos after a series of violent crimes plagues the Paris Opera House.

But the show must go on, and Christine will discover that no one – especially the mysterious voice whispering from the eaves – is what they seem.

As an old friend returns to investigate these surprising attacks, Christine will discover her connection to the truth and the man known as...THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

The Phantom of the Opera will thrill fans new and old with a twist no one sees coming!

"Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds have crafted a beautifully horrific tale in their exploration of The Phantom of the Opera filled with grit, tension, and all the makings of an operatic nightmare,” said Diegs Lopez, Senior Editor at Skybound. “It’s been a joy to see these two storytellers retell this story in a way that I don’t think fans have ever experienced but will be sure to devour.”

This collaboration between Skybound and Universal Products & Experiences is the latest milestone in a near decade long relationship that encompasses film, video games, and now comic book publishing. Universal Monsters: The Phantom of the Opera is the sixth Universal Monsters series launch, following James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds’ Dracula (which netted Simmonds a BEST PAINTER/MULTIMEDIA ARTIST (INTERIOR ART) Eisner Award nomination), Ram V, Dan Watters, and Matthew Roberts’ Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!, Michael Walsh’s Frankenstein, Faith Erin Hick’s The Mummy, and James Tynion IV and DANI’s The Invisible Man

The Phantom of the Opera will be followed by additional new Universal Monsters limited series pairing the biggest names in comics with pop culture’s most iconic monsters in the bestselling modern line of horror comics.

Universal Monsters: The Phantom of the Opera #1 (of 4) (Lunar Codes Coming Soon | SRP: $4.99, unless otherwise noted) will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
