An island prison full of lost women. A vindictive warden. And a slim chance to escape if they can work together. But not everyone shares the same vision. Our girls are going to have to fight their way out.

I'll admit I approached *Tigress Island* with some skepticism — another story of women trapped on an island, forced to fight for survival feels like well-worn territory. But Patrick Kindlon's involvement gave me reason for optimism, and two issues in, that faith has been rewarded.
The series has hit its stride quickly, delivering sharp character development, gleefully over-the-top villainy, and a persistent undercurrent of dread that keeps the tension coiled throughout. What could easily have leaned into exploitation territory has instead remained compellingly restrained — no gratuitous sex or violence, just an enthralling genre exercise with genuine menace.
The premise is lean and propulsive: a group of women discover they're trapped under the thumb of a ruthless warden who rules the island with an iron fist, all at the behest of a shadowy billionaire pulling strings from a distance. Escape is possible, but only if they can unite — and reaching consensus may prove more treacherous than the escape itself.
Kindlon adds depth to his ensemble through carefully rationed backstories, hinting at each woman's past transgressions without over-explaining them. The warden, disturbingly, seems to know it all. Artist EPHK translates this brilliantly through quick thought-bubble vignettes — single images that flash a character's history with economy and impact. The art itself is cartoony yet vividly expressive, with a hint of playful sexuality and action sequences that are crisply choreographed, each panel landing with real force.
'Tigress Island' is a taut, engrossing genre thriller — uniquely illustrated and smarter than its pulpy premise suggests. Nobody here is innocent, and with in-fighting threatening to doom them all, Kindlon and EPHK are steering this one toward a powder keg. Well worth picking up.
