New Folk-Horror Comic Series 'The Acts of Louis Debraz, Voyageur' is Now Live on Kickstarter

Louis Debraz's hunt for the Devil leads him to a local celebration where "old scratch" sets his sights on Rose Latulippe.

Canadian comic creators Matt McGrath and Jon Berg are launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund The Acts of Louis Debraz, Voyageur, a new 24-page comic series inspired by the legends, folklore and ghost stories of Quebec and Canada.

Set in 19th-century Lower Canada, Voyageur follows Louis Debraz, a Voyageur who has made it his life's mission to track the Devil across the country and send him back to Hell.

In “The Devil Comes to Dance” Louis’s quest brings him to the town of Saint-Jérôme where a group of party goers celebrating Mardi Gras are visited by a handsome traveller who sets his sights on the beautiful and brilliant daughter of the house, Rose Latulippe.

Louis joins forces with the parish priest to rescue this party before the devil collects their souls!

Voyageur draws inspiration from the rich tradition of Quebec folklore with a pulp-adventure spin on stories of the supernatural. This book is perfect for fans of Hellboy, Hellblazer and Conan the Barbarian. Future planned stories will explore other Canadian and Quebec folktales.

“For me, Voyageur is the kind of book I've always wanted to create,” says writer and co-creator Matt McGrath. “It’s a love letter to the stories, comics and films that inspired me to become a storyteller, but it’s also an opportunity to dig into the strange and fascinating folklore of Quebec and Canada and make those stories our own.”

The Voyageur Kickstarter campaign offers a range of rewards, from digital and signed print editions to limited risograph prints, original sketches, commissions and original comic artwork!

The campaign is scheduled to run through September 2026, with art expected to be completed in December. Digital rewards are projected for January 2027, with physical rewards expected to ship in January and February 2027.
