David Hine & Shaky Kane Resurrect the Acclaimed Odyssey of Surreal Superheroes for BULLETPROOF COFFIN: GIANT! CEASE TO EXIST

The Metafictional Magnum Opus Returns for 72 Pages of Psyche-Shattering, Fourth Wall-Smashing Action in January 2027

READER, PREPARE TO… CEASE TO EXIST!

Oni Press – the multiple Eisner and Harvey Award-winning publisher of groundbreaking comics and graphic novels since 1997 – is proud to announce the long-awaited return of comics’ most insidiously enthralling and potently psycho-active indie comics masterwork in BULLETPROOF COFFIN: GIANT! CEASE TO EXIST – a brand-new, 72-page dose of surreal superheroes and addictive ideas reuniting original series creators David Hine (co-creator of Spider-Man: Noir) and Shaky Kane (Man from Maybe, The Beef) in comic shops and book stores everywhere in January 2027! Continuing the semi-ongoing series of pseduo-psychedelic adventures that began with 2011’s landmark, self-titled Bullerproof Coffin series at Image Comics, GIANT! CEASE TO EXIST will mark the first new installment in Hine & Kane’s radical deconstruction of comics’ Silver Age sense of self since 2021… and mark the series’ official debut at Oni Press, where the publisher will begin collecting the complete BULLETPROOF COFFIN saga to date beginning in 2028.
“There I was enjoying my retirement from the increasingly fraught world of comic books, when my old friend and nemesis Shaky Kane called me up with an offer I couldn’t refuse,” said writer David Hine. “While the boundaries between reality and fiction are breaking down around us, Shaky figured the world needs another shot in the arm from The Bulletproof Coffin. So here it is, a last labour of love and hate from the Dynamic Duo, an antidote to New Fakery and proof that we ain’t dead yet.”
Inside the pages of the hyper-fictional Golden Nugget Comics imprint, a war is being waged with weapons of technological control by the Sons of Technarchy, a cabal of hyper-intelligent, all-powerful trillionaires who treat entire realities as disposable playthings. Standing in their way is an unlikely last line of defense: The brave but bizarre heroes known as Eye-We-I, Scarlet Spook, Ramona—Queen of the Stone Age, Red Wraith, Coffin Fly, the Shield of Justice, and more! But as the battle for existence rages, a mind-bending meta-twist unfolds—Hine and Kane themselves are drawn into the chaos, forced to confront their own demons as creators on the brink. Cosmic, chaotic, and wildly imaginative, BULLETPROOF COFFIN: GIANT! is a genre-smashing spectacle that blurs the line between fiction and reality.
“Hine and Kane unlock Wishbone Studio for one more time, in this big-shot, one-shot of genre busting hallucinatory hoo-ha!” said artist Shaky Kane. “See the Golden Nugget Heroes as you’ve never, or ever wanted, to see them before! Join the improbably named Eye-We-I and the Scarlet Spook as they embark on a mission to restore order to a world spinning very much askew, lest they quite literally ‘cease to exist’! All depicted in vivid hi-octane Shaky-vision. Now this one you won’t want to miss!”
Hine and Kane first introduced readers to the “Ficto-Verse” in 2011’s The Bulletproof Coffin, the initial six-issue miniseries which followed comic book collector Steve Neyman as he uncovers a strange connection between real life and obscure, pulp-style vintage comics. The second story arc expanding the “Ficto-Verse” appeared in 2012’s The Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred and was followed by the 2017 one-shot Bulletproof Coffin: The Thousand Yard Stare, a meta-sequel in which Hine and Kane first became characters in their own psychedelic universe. BULLETPROOF COFFIN: GIANT! CEASE TO EXIST will be the first new story in the Bulletproof Coffin world since two short stories in 2021’s Kane & Abel one-shot, as well as the first to be published by Oni Press.
Praise for Hine & Kane’s BULLETPROOF COFFIN saga:

PRIMORDIAL #1 Writer: Jeff Lemire Artist: Andrea Sorrentino, Dave Stewart Letterer: Steve Wands Publisher: Image Comics Release Date: September 15, 2021 Cover Price: $3.99 In 1957, the USSR launched the dog, Laika, into Earth's orbit. Two years later, the USA responded with two monkeys, Able and Baker. These animals never returned. But, unbeknownst to everyone, they did not die in orbit...they were taken. And now they are coming home. Score:  ★★★★1/2 (4.5/5) Few things can pique the interest of a comic book reader like a good ole conspiracy thriller. The latest example is the excellent new series from James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds entitled 'The Department of Truth' that's been a bestseller for Image Comics. It proposes conspiracy theories can be all-too-real and for Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino, and Dave St...
