Consisting of The Three-Body Problem, The Dark Forest and Death's End, Liu Cixin's acclaimed sci-fi trilogy The Three-Body Problem is a multi-million-selling phenomenon. Originally published in 2006, 2008 and 2010, the first volume of the contemporary, modern sci-fi won the Hugo Award for Best Novel while the last won the Locus Award, with the series gaining an even wider fanbase following the launch of the well-received Netflix series. Now this fall, the Folio Society, independent publisher of beautifully illustrated hardback books, will publish The Three-Body Problem Trilogy: Remembrance of Earth's Past, a stunning limited edition featuring art and design by award-winning illustrator Matt Griffin as well as a new introduction by the author that has never been published in English. The Folio Society’s edition of The Three-Body Problem Trilogy: Remembrance of Earth's Past is available on the Folio Society’s website as of September 8, 2026 at 4 pm UK time. Each copy will have a book plate signed by both the author and the illustrator.
The 1344-page limited edition will feature a special box design, lining, frontispiece, cover design, as well as 3 black & white integrated title-page spreads (one for each book in the trilogy), and 15 color illustrations including 3 double page spreads, all by the award-winning illustrator Matt Griffin. Bound in printed cloth with a design by Matt Griffin and blocked lettering by Steve O Connell, the limited edition also features blocked endpapers on Sirio Color Dark Blue paper, a ribbon marker, printed book edges, an outer Clamshell covered in holographic blocked cloth, and a copper holographic blocked paper lining. The lining features real three-body simulations created by Matt Griffin using a program from MIT which he received special permission to use.
“Starting with the Chinese Cultural Revolution and spanning some 18 million years into the future, Liu Cixin's masterpiece is as broad as it is compelling,” said Folio Society Editor James Rose. “A tale of humanity's struggle, and that of a civilisation fighting for its very existence, this dares to answer the question: 'Are we alone in the Universe?'. Beautifully and brilliant evoked in Matt Griffin's artwork, this is the ultimate edition of a science-fiction phenomenon. Fans of the series, anyone interested in sci-fi and hard science, and new readers alike will be awestruck by this edition.”
