Papercutz Launches 'Solar Sisters' With Accompanying Music Project

Papercutz, the kids imprint of Mad Cave Studios, has launched Solar Sisters today. Written by Amit Tishler and Elliot Sperl, illustrated by Virginia Salucci, colored by Giulia Zucca and lettered by Taylor Esposito; the sci-fi adventure is being developed as a connected entertainment universe spanning graphic novels, original music, animated videos and tabletop gaming. Animotion’s music rollout extends the story beyond the page, allowing audiences to discover its characters through songs that exist inside the fictional world while also working as standalone releases for listeners encountering the property for the first time.

Animotion Media Group has launched the music project for Solar Sisters, a new cross-media IP for middle-grade audiences, with the release of its first single, “Solar Cyclone,” and an accompanying animated music video. Released on October 9, the track introduces the sound of the franchise ahead of an upcoming three-song EP rollout that will launch to coincide with the publication of Solar Sisters, the original graphic novel from Papercutz.

"Solar Cyclone”, the project’s flagship song, appears several times within the graphic novel itself. The single is the first release from the forthcoming three-track EP, currently titled Solar Sisters: Nova Starr. The EP is a creative collaboration between franchise co-creator Amit Tishler, composer and music producer Alon Kaplan—whose credits include Lost in Play and Moomin: Midsummer Madness—and singer-songwriter HalaCG, whose diverse musical talents and voice bring the character of Nova Starr to life.

HalaCG is a creative partner in the Solar Sisters music IP, contributing to the lyrics and creative direction of Nova Starr’s music. Known in the global nerdcore community, Hala has built an international audience through original songs, independent covers and cross-talent collaborations inspired by titles including Honkai: Star Rail, Genshin Impact, Hazbin Hotel and The Amazing Digital Circus, with collaborators including Ironmouse, CG5, NerdOut and other leading digital creators.

Alon Kaplan is a composer and music producer whose work spans games, film and interactive entertainment. Kaplan produced the music for the EP and collaborated with Amit Tishler and HalaCG on developing the Solar Sisters brand’s unique musical identity.

The single is performed as a duet by HalaCG as Nova Starr and guest vocalist Risa Mei as Luna Dust, one of the graphic novel’s central protagonists. Mei is a voice actress and singer known for her work on projects like Honkai: Star Rail, Genshin Impact and My Dress-Up Darling. The animated “Solar Cyclone” video was directed by Amit Tishler and features artwork by comic artists Virginia Salucci, Giulia Zucca and Saturn Ibarra.

Co-Writer, Amit Tishler

"SOLAR SISTERS holds a special place in my heart. Every character in our story struggles to find a healthy balance between self-fulfillment and sacrifice, which is a particularly poignant struggle for anyone working in the arts. This adventure is optimistic, colorful and wholesome, with its characters and world inspiring the production of an entire galaxy of creations. With an original graphic novel, tabletop game and K-POP EP already on the way, the SOLAR SISTERS universe is going to be absolutely stellar (pun most certainly intended)."

Co-Writer, Elliot Sperl

"We created SOLAR SISTERS to inspire others with a scifi roller-coaster ride that takes our readers over the moon, across the Kuiper Belt and back! Juggling elements of slapstick humor, family drama and over-the-top action, this spacefaring adventure explores what it means to be true to yourself through the telescopic lens of our *star* studded cast. It may not be down-to-Earth, but we think this story about a ragtag family and their adopted alien daughter aims high, and will hopefully hit home for everyone. After all, it's not rocket science...just a tale as old as space-and-time."

A second animated music video, for the second single “Controlled,” will premiere November 6. Also directed by Tishler and featuring artwork by Salucci and Zucca, with both videos scheduled for release through HalaCG’s main YouTube channel. A third song, “Watch Me Fall” will premiere on December 4th, completing the full EP release. Together, the songs and videos establish the music project as both an extension of the original narrative and a distinct gateway into the wider Solar Sisters universe.

The Solar Sisters franchise will continue to expand in 2027 with Stardom: The Solar Sisters Game, a family-friendly, non-violent tabletop roleplaying game about the pursuit of fame. The game is in development with Seattle-based Lichenwood Games, the studio behind Favor: Gods of Oethera and Sapling Scramble, and Amit Tishler’s Vancouver-based 10 Forward Productions.

Readers can secure their copy of Solar Sisters today from their favorite bookstore, comic shop, or directly from Papercutz, as well as listen to the first single, “Solar Cyclone.”

Papercutz is dedicated to publishing great graphic novels for all ages, from humor and adventure to mystery and heartfelt coming-of-age tales.
